Uzbekistan:Submission to the Human Rights Committee: 96th session, 16-31 July 2009

Amnesty International submits this briefing for consideration by the Human Rights Committee in view of its adoption in July 2009 of a list of issues which it will raise in connection with the Committee’s examination of Uzbekistan’s third periodic report on measures taken to implement its obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
The organization remains seriously concerned at ongoing and persistent human rights violations in Uzbekistan and at the failure of the authorities to fully and effectively implement the state party’s obligations under the ICCPR and the recommendations by the Human Rights Committee, as well as other UN treaty bodies and special procedures.
