The security operation lasted over 19 hours last Sunday and was launched after the head of the department for the fight against extremism in Russia’s North Caucasus Federal District was shot dead as he drove to work in Makhachkala on Saturday.
Ten militants were killed in the Dagestani capital of Makhachkala with another three “eliminated” in the Kizilyurt district’s Komsomolskoye village. Two police officers were as well killed in the operation, the the National Antiterrorism Committee said.
