Belarus: Journalist Face 4 Years – Trial Behind Close Doors

In Grodno, Belarus, a trial is under way behind closed doors of a 38-year old Belarusian, a correspondent of the Polish periodical Gazeta Wyborcza, Andrei Pochobut on charges of insulting and slandering the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

The journalist is facing up to 4 years in prison. Investigators insist that the journalist insulted and slandered the Belarusian leader in a number of reports carried by the Gazeta Wyborcza and posted on the Internet. But Pochobut rejects all accusations.
