Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are keeping their borders shut, depriving Kyrgyzstan’s ethnic Uzbeks of possibilities of evading discrimination and violence that are continuing in the country’s south, Human Rights Watch has said.
On 20 July the organisation urged the Kyrgyz and Uzbek authorities to open borders for ethnic Uzbeks from Kyrgyzstan who want to find shelter in neighbouring Uzbekistan.
